Sharma was speaking at a workshop on Gemstones in Odisha – Exploration and Exploitation Strategy here on Friday. The workshop was organized by the newly-formed state PSU – Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (OMECL).
The steel and mines secretary said the gemstone sector in the state has potential to add substantial revenue to the state exchequer while boosting the local economy and creating jobs.
OMECL managing director R Vineel Krishna said the newly-formed PSU will strengthen and upscale the exploration of gemstones in various regions of the state. He also highlighted on the huge employment potential in the gemstone sector.
The state government has assigned the OMECL to explore and ascertain the scope of gemstone sector in the state.
Senior officials of the state steel and mines department, geo-scientists and representatives of industries attended the workshop.
