Varanasi schools closed till Jan 8 due to cold wave

NEW DELHI: In view of the prevailing cold wave in UP, the Varanasi District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma has ordered all schools to remain closed till Wednesday.

Sharma ordered school managements to suspend classes till Wednesday, January 8, 2020. All schools in Varanasi will open on Thursday.

The order to shut-down schools in Varanasi has been issued by the District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma earlier on the weekend. However, the DM has suggested that the pre-board examination schedule will remain unchanged and unaffected by this order.

UP government has directed all district administrations to ensure that schools till 12th standard will remained closed till Sunday as an intense cold wave had hit the state.

Parents associations had been demanding suspension of classes as the winter chill was causing a lot of health issues to children.

In December last year, amidst severe cold wave, schools were shut in Delhi, Haryana, Noida, Agra, and Lucknow.
