MUMBAI: Students from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS) staged a protest march near Govandi station against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019. The students tried to engage other citizens as well during their march and requested people to take a stand against the bill which attacked the foundation of the nation.
Students marched with placards displaying messages such as ‘Reject CAB, Save India’, ‘CAB violates the basic spirit of Indian Constitution’, ‘The bill violates Article 14 of the Constitution which guarantees right to equality, ‘Citizenship is not pocket money of politicians’. The northeast students’ forum at TISS also issued a statement rejecting the bill with ‘Save Secular Citizenship’, ‘Save Indigenous Rights’ messages. The CAB introduces exceptional provisions for acquiring citizenships for non-Muslim immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
