The High Court has issued a notice of motion to six persons including University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman, Registrar MS Nijjar, Punjab Principal Secretary, Patiala Vigilance Bureau ADGP and SSP Vigilance Bureau Patiala and Director Welfare of SC and BC.
The notice has been issued by the court after hearing a petition in a matter of pending inquiry in alleged scam. The petition was filed by Harvinder Singh Sandhu who moved the court against the university for not taking any action or fixing responsibility of anyone even the alleged scam in which seven Assistant Professors were recruited on the basis of fake SC/BC certificates between a period of ten years – 2007 to 2017.
In 2017, the then officiating VC Anurag Verma, IAS had marked the inquiry after complaints of alleged scam taking place in the university was brought into his knowledge. Verma then marked 16 inquires after the complaint of scams in different sectors in the university was tabled before him.
Among these six were allegedly recruited in the Engineering College, one was absorbed in the Department of Economics. The inquiry report has been submitted to VC BS Ghuman in December 2017 following which two members a committee including former IAS Jagjit Puri and former IPS VK Kapoor was formed to probe into the inquiry reports submitted regarding the scams.
