Mahatma Gandhi University takes action against five employees

KOTTAYAM: Mahatma Gandhi University took disciplinary action against five employees for lapses in determining the number of students who passed through the mark donation row by the syndicate.

Two officers were suspended, three employees including the joint registrar were transferred from their posts. Interestingly, some of these officers had cited that the mark donation row made by the syndicate was illegal.

The suspended officers include section officers V K Anandakrishnan and Benny Kuriakose. The transferred officials include joint registrar (examination) Ashiq M M Kamal, deputy registrar Naseema Beevi and assistant registrar P Padmakumar. Three of the officers belong to the Congress-leaning university employees union and Kamal is the general secretary of the union.

The registrar of the varsity assigned the controller of examinations to conduct a probe and to file a detail report against the five before January 4.

The report also said that the officers have tarnished the image of the varsity. According to an official who is facing action, it is strange that the varsity is not concerned about the blemish it had in the mark donation row and instead wants to take revenge against them.
