Speaking at a press conference at the League House here on Thursday, KSU state president K M Abhijith and MSF state president Mishab Keezhariyoor said that the left- affiliated syndicate of the varsity and the SFI was scuttling all democratic norms.
“The varsity and its syndicate which is bound to ensure equal justice for all elected UUCs have amended the Calicut University Union bylaw to take away the voting rights of 292 UUCs elected from self-financing colleges. It is against the varsity Act and Statutes,” Abhijith said.
He added that the varsity was moving ahead with the election without even waiting for the verdict of the high court on the case filed challenging the bylaw amendment.
Under the amended bylaw all the UUCs elected from aided and government colleges and university department and off campus centres will have voting rights and they will directly become members of the executive council. But only one third of the total elected UUCs from self- financing colleges can become members of the newly formed Executive Council of the Calicut University Union which will select the office bearers of the university students union.
KSU and MSF had not submitted nominations to the election to executive council the scrutiny of which is scheduled for Friday. The election of office bearers of the university union is slated for January 18.
