JOSEPH AUGUSTUS ZARELLI: POLICE UNCOVERED THE IDENTITY OF THE” BOY IN THE BOX ” AFTER 65 YEARS

On Thursdays, during the press conference, the Philadelphia police stated that they had confirmed the ‘boy in the box ‘identity. The deceased is identified as Joseph Augustus Zarelli. 

Who is Joseph Augustus Zarelli?

On February 26, 1957, in Philadelphia, a young boy aged 4 to 6 was discovered dead in a box and covered by a blanket at Susquehanna Road.

The body was found to be naked and battered. His body had multiple scars, and he was malnourished. His hair and fingernails were trimmed. 

The body was first discovered by a man looking for musk traps. But fearing the police, he did not report. However, a few days later, a college student found the body and reported it to the police. 

According to the police, the cause of his death was blunt force trauma. They tried to find the boy’s identity by printing his face in the newspaper, but for a long time, no one was able to identify the boy; hence the case was named America’s unknown child.

They had many theories, and suspects about all were ruled out. This became one of the oldest unsolved cases in Philadelphia and was known as the ‘boy in the box. But that all changed when the Philadelphia police were able to identify the boy as Joseph Augustus Zarelli after 65 years of the case 

Identification of the body:

According to the police, genetic genealogists took up this case many years ago. They tried finding relatives and were able to figure out his birth parents. However, they did not disclose the identity of his parents. 

According to the police, Joseph August Zareeli was born on January 13, 1953. With the help of his new information, they will now be able to solve his case and find the culprit. This news has brought hope and might become a tool for solving other unsolved cases.
