IIT Jodhpur to admit students in TechMBA based on CAT scores

The institute’s new School of Management and Entrepreneurship will also offer capacity building programmes non-IITians and aspiring entrepreneurs

The newly-established School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur, will offer several management programmes from the ensuing academic session starting from July 2020. The institute will offer 44 courses as part of the curriculum and the students will be enrolled based on valid Common Admission Test (CAT) 2019 scores.

Regular MBA, executive, leadership and doctoral programmes are being conceived under the new school. Besides, the institute will also offer Tech-MBA programme, a two-year degree focussed on training the next generation of management in the technology space. The students will take up foundation courses during the first year and the second year will allow them to earn a specialisation in cutting-edge tech such as artificial intelligence, business analytics, and data science.

“The concept of a dual degree is also under consideration. We will be partnering with institutes in the US, Europe, and Singapore, which will allow the students to spend the second year of the degree at a foreign university. The Tech-MBA graduates will receive two degrees from different institutes and be eligible to join the workforce of the respective country,” says MP Gupta, professor, SME, IIT Jodhpur.

Entrepreneurship, says Gupta, is a crucial phenomenon across the world and institutes must offer courses to nurture entrepreneurial mindset in youngsters. “The new school may also offer entrepreneurship programmes for the students pursuing vanilla BTech and MTech degrees. Hence, a student will be able to receive a BTech degree with major in mechanical engineering and minor specialisation in entrepreneurship,” he adds.

Gupta says that the school will be bifurcated into two different entities – School of Management and School of Entrepreneurship – which will allow the institute to offer specialised degrees such as MBA in Entrepreneurship.

Besides, programmes for non-IITians seeking startup guidance will also be offered by the newly-established school. “There is no dearth of entrepreneurial talent in India, but many young entrepreneurs struggle to receive appropriate guidance and knowledge. Hence, the school will offer several programmes to guide the aspirants about incubation, marketing and commercialisation,” adds Gupta.
