Hyderabad school students donate Rs 19.50 lakh to support education for underprivileged

HYDERABAD: The students of Silver Oak International School in Bachupally collected Rs 19.50 lakh as part of their annual initiative ‘coins for the country’ to support education of those belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society.

According to school authorities, the figure is Rs 1.50 lakh higher than the amount collected by the students last year. As part of the initiative, students are encouraged to earn and save money by running home libraries, performing household chores and winning competitions. Few students also save their pocket money or gifts that they receive from their friends and family members during festivals or on special occasions.

This was the highest amount that the students have collected since 2013-14. While the students had collected Rs 7.56 lakh in 2013-14, the amount rose to Rs 18 lakh during academic year 2018-19. The amount is now given to a local non-government organisation to support education for students belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society.
