ALLAHABAD: A day after former president of Allahabad University student union (AUSU) Richa Singh levelling serious charges on the issue of security lapses on the premises of Women’s Hostel (WH) of Allahabad University, the varsity administration has come out with the claim that the fact is that Singh is illegally holding the room at the hostel allotted to her despite being served notice.

Singh had met the University Grant Commission’s chairman Prof DP Singh on Monday and raised the issue of security of thousands of girl inmates residing in Six hostels located within the four-walls of WH. In her representation, Singh had questioned the AU authorities that how the workers of the contractor, many of whom are young boys, roam freely within the premises of WH without any identity proof and often pass objectionable comments and gestures to the girl inmates of WH.

AU chief proctor, Prof RS Dubey, while talking to TOI, on Monday had refuted Singh’s allegations and maintained that all the workers of the contractor enter the WH premises with valid documents. He had also said that the former AUSU president is staying illegally inside the hostel and she is trying to divert the issue.

However, on Tuesday, varsity’s public relation officer (PRO), Chitranjan Kumar posted some audio clips of alleged conversation between Richa Singh and the contractor who has been awarded the civil work within the WH campus. The PRO has also posted the notice issued to Singh, dated November 29, wherein Singh has been asked to vacate room number 301 allotted to her at Hall of Residence-I which is one of the hostel located inside the WH.

The PRO has also said that Singh has threatened the contractor of forcefully stopping the ongoing work and the latter had submitted a complaint to AU authorities in this regard.

Commenting on the issue, Singh, while talking to TOI on phone from Delhi, said, “First of all there should be an inquiry over the issues whether the voice on the audio is mine or not and it is laughable that AU authorities all of a sudden realises that I am staying illegally – a claim which I refute – and how come the PRO is functioning as an advocate of the contractor”. Yes, I had told him to be present at the site and see to it that his workers behave properly. If they (AU authorities) had any documents or any material against me, why not lodge an FIR against me, she questioned.
