Bangladesh gallery to come up in Rabindra Baharati University

KOLKATA: Rabindra Bharati University is soon going to have a Bangladesh gallery and for which Bangladesh minister of state for culture K M Khalid will be setting the foundation stone on Saturday. Bangladesh government has agreed to hand over the objects used by Rabindranath Tagore in Bangladesh to the gallery. For setting up the gallery Bangladesh government will be funding Rs 63 lakh said Bangladesh deputy high commissioner in Kolkata Toufique Hasan. He said that the objects which were preserved in Bangladesh will be showcased in the gallery at Jorasanko Thakurbari — the birth place of Tagore. He said that the gallery is expected to come up within six months.

RBU has already got a replica of a boat used by Tagore in Shilaidaha. The residence of Tagore at Shilaidaha is well protected by the Bangladesh government.

Even memoirs of Tagore during his stay in Patisar which was part of Tagore’s zamindari estate will also be there in the gallery. Tagore had also spent part of his life in Shahjadpur wher Tagore had a kachari bari ) revenue office) and there is a Rabindra Memorial in shahjadpur in Sirajgunj. Even Tagore had spent his days in Dakhindihi in Khulna and his in-laws were from Khulna.

M Iqbal, press secretary of Bangladesh deputy high commission said that on Sunday there will be a seminar at the Kolkata book fair to commemorate birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On Sunday in the Kolkata book fair Bangladesh Divas will be observed, Iqbal said.
