Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Rajya Sabha Jaya Bacchachan spoke on the issue while addressing the speaker. She mentioned that alleged security lapses in terms of women inmates staying inside the Six hostels , located within the four-halls of WH of AU is a serious issue and needs immediate attention failing which we should be prepared for any untoward incident.
She also said that when the issue was raised by a student leader of AU, she was given notice by the varsity authorities saying that she is illegally staying in the room allotted to her in one of the hostel of WH.
The issue was raised two days back by the former president of AU student union, Richa Singh who had alleged that workers of a contractor opening roam inside the WH premises without valid passes and often pass objectionable remarks on the passing girl inmates.
AU authorities, on Tuesday had said that Singh is staying illegally in the Hall of Residence in room number 301 even though her tenure, for staying in the allotted room, is over.
Meanwhile, Singh had also met chairman of national women commission at Delhi and raised the issue of women safety in WH premises.
In another development, Rajya Sabha MP, also from SP, Reoti Raman Singh, also raised the issue of AU in the Rajya Sabha, on Wednesday. He spoke on the large number of vacant teaching and non-teaching positions at AU and how it is hindering the overall development of AU.
