Annual conference of Society of Invasive Cardio-Vascular Technologists begins

KOZHIKODE: The Annual Conference of the Society of Invasive Cardio-Vascular Professionals, Kerala Chapter ‘SICPCON 2020’ commenced at Raviz Kadavu Resort here on Saturday. Dr M K Muneer MLA inaugurated the conference.

Life Time Achievement award was presented to Mr.Vijayasenan, Former Cath Lab Technologist. M P Jayapalan , President AND Organizing Chairman, SICP-Kerala presided over the function. T Mohan Kumar , Organizing Secretary; P J Johnson, Vice President, SICP, Gigin Nath G, Secretary, SICP also spoke during the inaugural session.

Explaining the benefits of minimally invasive cardio vascular procedures, T Mohan Kumar , Organising Secretary said that minimally invasive procedures have rendered most open surgeries and bypass surgeries obsolete. The latest imaging techniques gives 3D perception of the surgical fields and elements enabling catheter based interventions with extreme precision even in most complex cases.

‘Minimally invasive procedures require only limited incision to access and are performed with high degree of precision on surgical fields. Naturally, the benefits are fast procedures, less bleeding, less post operative pain, faster recovery, smaller scars reduced health care cost and hospital admissions and finally the best cosmetic result for the scars are minimal,’ Mohan Kumar T said.

The two days’ conference will feature scientific sessions and symposiums on the latest scientific developments in Coronary Bifurcation stenting, Hemodynamic as a diagnostic tool, Rhythm Management and Electrophysiology.

‘Senior Cardiologists, Neurologists and Radiologists are leading some of the important sessions .’ Mohan Kumar said.

Special sessions are being held for imaging techniques like Intra Vascular Ultra Sound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to identify the plaque built up leading to narrowing of blood vessels or heart attack.

The conference will also cover technical aspects of Intervention procedures including treatment of Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) characterised complete or near complete blockage of coronary artery, Rotablation techniques to break down calcified blocks and Coronary Intervention, Lead management, Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) techniques, Structural Intervention, Aortic and Peripheral Intervention, Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology, Leadless Pacemakers, Neuro Interventions, Paediatric Intervention and Acute stroke management, Mohan Kumar said.

The delegates will also discuss strategies to create public awareness on various branches of Invasive cardio vascular technologies. The conference will conclude on Sunday. More than four hundred multi- disciplinary Invasive cardio vascular technologists are holding interactive sessions with expert doctors on a wide range of topics touching the latest scientific and technological advancements in Interventional Cardiology, Radiology and Neurology.
