Prof Tewari, who had joined AU way back in 1982 as an assistant professor in the department of electronic and communication, popularly known as J K Institute, would officiate as the VC of AU till the time a regular vice chancellor is appointed by the HRD, which could take around three months or so. AU would be coming out with the advertisement of the same in coming days.
Meanwhile, before handing over the charge as the VC to Prof Tewari, the outgoing VC, Prof Sahoo called meeting of heads of various departments and deans. Prof Sahoo, who was given the charge of AU VC, on Tuesday night retired on Wednesday.
However, before retiring and handing over the charge to Prof Tewari, Prof Sahoo took several important decisions foremost being increasing the number of working days in a week.
AU would now function for six days a week against the earlier practice of five days a week. The former VC Prof RL Hangloo has changed the functioning of AU to five days from the earlier practice of six days. “Because of five days of working, the course was getting delayed and now teachers and pupil will have six days to finish the course and study”, said Prof Sahoo.
Among other decisions, taken by Prof Sahoo, now the AU website will have a list of teachers as per their seniority. “Before me taking over the charge of VC, there was much hue and cry made on who is senior on the campus whereas there should not be any confusion in a clean administration, that’s why I have ordered that AU’s website should have a clear list of seniority of teachers”, he said while talking to TOI.
On the issue of student union or student council on the campus, Prof Sahoo has recommended to reconsider the decision, of replacing student union by council, at an appropriate forum.
Likewise, the selection committee for CAS (career advancement scheme) of the teachers, AU would soon be holding the selection committee for the same, assured the outgoing VC.
On issue pertaining to future of correspondence institute, Prof Sahoo has recommended the same to be reconsidered by an appropriate body.
